Federal Regulation
Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act
On or after 12/20/08, all pools and spas are required to have anti-entrapment devices or systems that comply with the ASME A112.19.8, standard, 2007 version.
Many pools will be able to ensure compliance with anti-entrapment covers installed on dual main drains.
However, covers manufactured prior to the date of this standard (2007) are not considered compliant with the federal regulation and will have to be replaced.
Additionally, the act requires that any pool or spa with a single outlet (other than an unblockable drain), must employ at least one other device designed to prevent entrapment by a pool or spa drain.
